With only two days left until the annual Santa Claus Parade, RVH staff members Sharon Johnson, from left, Garth Matheson, Colleen McKee, Rena Spinks, Dianne Ward and Rob Hubbert are turning up the heat on their Christmas float entitled Under Construction. The parade starts at 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Santa Claus is coming to town on Saturday.

The 12th-annual Santa Claus Parade, hosted by the Greater Barrie Chamber of Commerce, starts at 5 p.m.

This year’s theme is “My Favorite Christmas Memory” and all float designers were encouraged to incorporate the imaginative use of lights and music that made last year's parade such a success.

“I’m hoping people come out,” said Ann Chamaillard of the Chamber office. “This is our 12th year organizing the parade so we pretty much have it down to an art. The parade has really been cleaned up since the first year.”

The big change made to this year’s nighttime parade is that it will travel along a different route.

It will depart from the Brock/Innisfil intersection at 5 p.m., then head northeast on Brock Street to Bradford Street. It will go north on Bradford all the way to Dunlop Street West. It will snake east on Dunlop, winding all the way through downtown Barrie where it will come to a stop at Poyntz Street.

Spectators will be able to enjoy approximately 30 floats, each unique in its own way as they huddle together in Christmas spirit.

“The parade is going to take around an hour-and-a-half depending on the weather,” said Chamaillard.
